Pro-Life Committee

Pro-Life Committee

Committed to prayer, service, community and celebration!

Our Vision

We hope to engage the parishioners of the Cathedral parish in a pro-life ministry built on prayer, service, celebration and community.

Prayer

As a committee, we will begin and end our meetings and work with prayer. Through personal and group prayer, we hope to support national pro-life efforts (like 40 Days for Life and the March for Life) from home, keep daily intentions for women who are facing difficult or crisis pregnancies in our hearts, and "host" rosaries before Masses in the months of May and October.

We also hope to help form our parish in pro-life apologetics and spiritual development. One resource we'll be using this year is the Into Life Series created by the Sisters of Life and available to parishioners for free! We hope you will check this series out and enjoy learning about the journey into life in each video. You can click here to access the Into Life Series for free.

Service

We hope to work with existing service efforts in our parish (such as diaper drives, volunteering at the local pregnancy help center, and finding specific ways to accompany expectant mothers) and have some new ideas too!

One of our priorities as a committee is to launch a Meal Train Ministry that connects families who could use extra support with those families who love to cook. Learn more below:

Community

We are excited to engage Cathedral parish families in pro-life spirituality, service, and prayer. We are especially excited to be able to "meet families where they are" by offering many different ways to engage with pro-life efforts at our parish.

Whether you are able to sign up to take others a meal, add pro-life intentions to your family prayers, or take the lead in organizing a bigger project, we're happy to have as many people in our parish involved. We know that coming together in this work will create a beautiful network and strengthen our parish community to be people that celebrate, pray, and serve together.

Celebration

We know that pro-life work is often focused on protecting the dignity of human life from birth to natural death. And we know that work can often be a heavy cross to carry.

One aspect of pro-life work we hope to inspire in our parish is to find ways to celebrate the life we have been given and live it to the fullest. Celebrating the greatest gift we have is a witness to others how beautiful, and valuable, this precious gift is. This year, we hope to:

  • Create opportunities in our parish to celebrate parishioner's lives by listing birthdays in the parish bulletin
  • Deliver celebratory cards (or small gifts) to the babies born at SSM St. Mary's Hospital
  • Celebrating new babies born to Cathedral parish families with a gift and a meal train
  • Hosting the Biking for Babies team each summer as they cycle cross-country to renew the Culture of Life by supporting PRCs.
