Vocations Committee Minutes 6/2/20

I. Opening Prayer

Louie Delk led the opening prayer.

II. Roll Call

In attendance:  Louie Delk, Ginny Bockwinkel, Carol Hartman, Dena Brand, and John Poepsel.

III. Approval of Minutes

The previous meeting minutes were approved.

IV.   Report on Ongoing Activities

A. Weddings:

There was one wedding since February

B. Baptisms:

Congratulatory letters were sent to two families who had their children baptized since February.

C.  Cards for Priests, Deacons, Consecrated Religious and/or Seminarians:    

  • Praying for You cards sent to priests, deacons, consecrated religious, and seminarians during each of the 14 weekends since February.
  •  20 birthday and anniversary cards also sent since February.

  D. Budget:

     A gift certificate in the amount of $50 was sent to Derek Hooper as he was ordained a Transitional Deacon on June 30th.   The committee discussed and agreed for the need to purchase additional religious postcards as well as more stamps for mailing congratulatory letters and cards.

  E .  Christ the High Priest Icon: 

        The committee discussed the safety issues associated with the Icon during the Covid-19 pandemic.   It was decided that we continue to request prayers for Vocations to the Holy Priesthood, but not to pass around the Icon for safety reasons at this time.

F    Cards to be signed:

    Letters of congratulation are being sent to those who have recently been Confirmed as well as those who received their First Holy Communion.

V.    New Business:

The committee discussed the need to find additional members to join our Vocations Committee.  Committee members were urged to reach out to parishioners and to ask them to participate.    The time for holding our Vocations Committee Meeting was also discussed.  Our present meeting time is 4:30 p.m.   Perhaps a 5 p.m. meeting time would allow more individuals to join our committee.

VI.   Next Meeting Date and Time:

Tuesday, August  4, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mary Room.
